Construction of Bahrain’s National Assembly Building (BNAB) began with the formation of the substructure. Ready mixed concrete was required for the casting of mass blocks to form the sea walls for podium and lagoon promenade. These blocks were too large to transport on public roads so they were to be manufactured on site.

Haji Hassan Readymix (HHR) presented an opportunity to demonstrate how expertise, experience and resources can lead to the rapid establishment and Ministry approval of a site batch plant. Once the agreement was signed, HHR poured approved concrete from the erected, commissioned and certified site batch plant within 8 weeks. The mix design was specially developed to provide a particularly smooth surface, high durability using Silica Fume and early strength to allow 24-hour turn-around of moulds.

The shape of the lagoon was further enhanced by another Haji Hassan Group Division, Bahrain Precast Company, who supplied red-hued coping blocks for sea walls to reinforce the patriotic flavor of this iconic project.
