Bahrain Asphalt (BA) executed the pavement works for The Dukhan Highway project (west contract) which consisted of approximately 42 km of new highway from Shahaniya to the Dukhan industrial area. Work included the construction of a dual four-lane carriageway with grade-separated interchanges, 35 km of surfaced collector distributor roads and another 32 km of unsurfaced roads.

The work commenced in January 2006 and reached completion in July 2009. BA laid 1.7 million tons of asphalt and 930,000 tons of sub-base for this project in accordancetoHighwayandQNBSspecifications.Toachievethisaboveoutputs 2nr Asphalt plants having a production capacity of 240 tons/hour, each were set up with all the necessary ancillaries. Continuous asphalt laying technology using 6nr Vogele pavers and Hamm PTR and steel drum rollers were utilized and the average output per day reached up to 4,000 tons to meet project schedule.
